Wondrous Strange by Lesley Livingston

From School Library Journal
Grade 7–10—When Kelley moves to New York to pursue her dreams of theatrical success, she expects that her only encounters with mythical beings will be confined to the stage, in the Avalon Grande Theatre's production of A Midsummer Night's Dream. All of that changes when she meets Sonny Flannery, who introduces Kelley to a world she never knew existed. A member of Auberon's Janus Guard, he patrols the portal (in Central Park) between the human and faerie worlds on the few dangerous nights when it opens and members of the Unseelie Court can pass into the mortal realm. He is strangely drawn to Kelley, and as he gets to know her, he begins to suspect that there is more to her history than either of them know. Through encounters with sirens, hellhounds, and kelpies, Kelley and Sonny are drawn irrevocably into a battle among the Fey. Despite the budding attraction between them, forces they can hardly understand seek to keep them apart. Set against the backdrop of present-day New York City, this enchanting first novel weaves together the worlds of theater and magic in a way that is sure to please fans of both. Readers will revel in the hints of Shakespeare within the text as they are introduced to faerie creatures both familiar and "wondrous strange."—Misti Tidman, Boyd County Public Library, Ashland, KY

What can I say about this book? Wondrous Strange was a great read and I was hooked from the very beginning. I can't wait for the sequel that is either coming out late fall or early spring. The book is about a girl name Kelley Winslow, who happens to be an actress that just got the part to play Titania in A Midsummer Night's Dream. While one day walking through Central Park she meets a boy named Sonny Flannery, who happens to be be one of the guard to the Faerie King Auberon. His job is too protect humanity from the Fae's that slip through Samhaim Gate. The characters are connected from the very beginning, but they didn't know who till towards the middle of the book. While walking through the park Sonny noticed that Kelley was different. He called her, his firecracker because of the way she flickered. While Sonny is trying to figure out who she is, she believes that he is following her. One day finally learned who she is and tries to tell her that she is the Faerie King's missing daughter. Kelly doesn't believe him at 1st, until she called her aunt to find out the truth. From then Sonny is on a quest to protect the girl he loves while trying to find out who is wants to cause her great harm. I enjoyed both characters and I specially love the fact that Lesley wrote the book from both points of view. It helps to understand about how they view each other.
